Custom ERP or a product off the market?

Buy when your processes are ordinary in the good sense: standard procurement, standard warehousing, standard accounting. Established products encode decades of other companies’ lessons, and bending your business slightly to fit them is usually cheaper than encoding your current habits into code that you then own forever.

Build, or extend with custom modules, when a process is genuinely your competitive advantage or genuinely unusual — configurable production, complex pricing, an industry the standard vendors have never served properly. The common answer is a hybrid: a standard core for finance and stock, custom modules where you are actually different, and an integration designed so that upgrading the core does not break your part.

How long does an ERP implementation actually take?

For a mid-sized company, six months to a year for the full rollout, including migration and training. A single first module goes live considerably sooner, but anyone quoting six weeks for an entire company is describing a demo install. We phase go-lives by department to keep the business running throughout.

Custom ERP or standard system — what do you honestly recommend?

Standard for finance and HR almost always; custom only where your operational process is a real differentiator. Most of our engagements end as hybrids — a standard core with custom modules at the edges.
