Centru region, Priority 2: what 2.1.1 funded, what 2.1.2 required, what comes next on 2.2
Priority 2 of the Centru Regional Programme contains three calls with three different statuses — and on one of them a town hall could not even be an applicant.
Priority 2 of the Centru Regional Programme, „O regiune digitală” (A Digital Region), contains three calls, and at our check on 30 July 2026 each carried a different status on regiocentru.ro. Intervention 2.1.1, „Comunități digitale pentru o regiune inteligentă – soluții digitale”, MySMIS code PRC/444/PRC_P2/OP1, had a call budget of €44,799,363 and requested grants between €15,000 and €500,000, with submissions running from 20 August 2024, 12:00, to 20 February 2025, 12:00; eligible applicants were town, city and commune authorities across Alba, Brașov, Covasna, Harghita, Mureș and Sibiu, county authorities and partnerships between them, and the call is now inactive after five corrigenda. Intervention 2.1.2, the regional pilot open-innovation platform for smart city, code PRC/897/PRC_P2/OP1, carried €1,764,706 and ran from 18 May to 17 July 2026, but applicants had to be partnerships that mandatorily include a research and knowledge-dissemination organisation — a town hall could only be a partner, never a sole applicant. Action 2.2, the second call for digital enterprises, carries €14,113,032 with grants between €15,000 and €200,000 for SMEs operating outside the ICT sector. Two further observations from the same check: call 2.2 was still marked as in consultation although the announced consultation period had ended on 20 May 2026, and the financeable-projects section carried no list for Intervention 2.1.1.

What amounts could be requested through the Centru digital communities call?
Requested non-repayable funding ranged from €15,000 to €500,000 per project, out of a call budget of €44,799,363. The call was competitive with a submission deadline, and the window closed on 20 February 2025 at 12:00. Its MySMIS code is PRC/444/PRC_P2/OP1, which is the fastest way to locate the corrigendum-consolidated documents.
Could a town hall apply on its own under smart city pilot call 2.1.2?
No. Eligible applicants had to be partnerships mandatorily including a research and knowledge-dissemination organisation as defined by the European framework for state aid for research, development and innovation. Local authorities in the Centru region could participate only as partners. The call budget was €1,764,706, with submissions from 18 May to 17 July 2026.
Can sensors and equipment be bought under the smart city strand of call 2.1.1?
The guide stated that smart city actions, limited to the region's cities, supported the development, testing, piloting and commissioning of systems, platforms, solutions and applications without hardware or auxiliary components — that is, without equipment, components or sensors. Those purchases stayed outside this strand, and the budget concentrated on software, licences and integration.
