The gap between these two worlds is not the quality of the hardware; it is what you buy alongside it. From a regional provider — a datacentre in Romania or elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe, which is where most of our client workloads sit — you typically get clearly delimited resources such as processor, memory, storage and traffic, at a fixed monthly price, under a contract governed by EU law, with an invoice you can hand straight to your accountant and a support desk staffed by someone who understands your setup. From a hyperscaler you get the same virtual server plus a catalogue of several hundred managed services: message queues, administered databases, serverless functions, analytics tooling, machine-learning building blocks. That catalogue is the entire reason the higher price and the accounting complexity might be worth paying — but only if you actually use it. The most frequent mistake we are called in to unwind is a simple application moved onto a global platform, where it ends up running on exactly the same two servers as before, only now on a bill nobody forecast, with egress charges that arrive as a surprise and support priced separately.

Pick the hyperscaler if you have a genuine need for advanced managed services, if traffic multiplies tenfold during campaigns, if your audience spans several continents, or if your product sells to customers who explicitly demand specific infrastructure certifications.

There is also the option few suppliers propose, although it is often the correct one: a mix. You keep the application and the database with a regional provider, cheap and predictable, and take from a large platform only those services you genuinely do not want to administer — for example off-site backup storage in another country, or an analytics service. The total cost falls, and the risk of depending on a single vendor is split between two.

If you have a brochure site or a shop on a standard platform, you need neither a hyperscaler nor a migration project: good managed hosting with daily backups and updates included covers everything you need at a fraction of the cost.
