What is Dropshipping?
An online retail model with no stock of your own: you sell and collect payment, the supplier ships straight to the customer — margins and risks included.
Behind every ad promising "passive income from e-commerce" sits a genuinely simple mechanism: you open an online store, list a supplier's products without buying them, and each time an order arrives the supplier ships directly to your customer — you keep the difference between selling price and purchase price, with no stock and no warehouse. The honest half of the promise: the entry barrier really is minimal and the model is legitimate, including as a way to test demand before committing money to inventory. The half the ads skip: margins are thin and eroded by paid advertising (traffic never arrives on its own), you control neither quality nor delivery times — yet the complaints, returns and reviews are entirely yours — and with goods shipped from Asia, weeks-long deliveries and customs charges land squarely in your relationship with the customer. Legally, toward a Romanian consumer you are the seller, carrying every obligation of OUG 34/2014: 14-day returns, warranties, product conformity. The version with a real shot at a durable business: local or European suppliers, automated stock-and-order integration with the store, a niche with decent margin — and the expectations of a trade, not of a lottery ticket.

Why it matters for your business
Entering e-commerce without locked-up capital
With no money tied up in stock or a warehouse, you can validate a niche cheaply — the least expensive serious commercial experiment there is.
A wider catalog without dead-inventory risk
Existing stores can add whole categories on a dropshipping basis — testing real demand before purchasing any stock.
Run from anywhere, scale elastically
With no logistics of your own, growing volume needs no bigger warehouse — only more orders flowing automatically to suppliers.
Frequently asked questions
Is dropshipping legal in Romania?
Yes, entirely — it is ordinary commerce, with a registered company, accounting and normal obligations. The frequently ignored point: toward the customer, the seller is you, not the supplier — the 14-day return right, the warranty and product conformity are your responsibility regardless of where the parcel started its journey.
Can you still make money with dropshipping, or is the market saturated?
The generic playbook — AliExpress products pushed with Facebook ads — is indeed crowded, its margins consumed by advertising costs. What works: niches backed by real expertise, nearby suppliers (delivery in days, not weeks) and margins that survive the cost of acquiring customers. It is commerce with work attached, not passive income.
What technical integration does a serious dropshipping store need?
Automatic synchronization with the supplier: stock levels kept current so you never sell what no longer exists, orders transmitted without manual copying, tracking numbers and statuses returned to the customer. Without those links, "hassle-free" turns into copying orders at midnight and customers waiting for sold-out products.
