Symfony: the PHP foundation for long-lived systems

Symfony is a foundation other PHP projects build on: its components underpin Laravel, Drupal and many commercial platforms. As a standalone framework it is the rigor-first choice: long-term-support versions announced in advance, carefully managed compatibility between releases and an architecture that survives years of successive changes. We recommend it to companies building systems with a ten-year horizon — B2B platforms, complex internal systems — and to projects that require predictability around support. The trade-off, stated plainly: initial development is slower and more expensive than Laravel, because Symfony demands more explicit structure. For fast, mid-sized projects, Laravel remains our standard recommendation.
